Our History
Mr W. D. Davies started the practice in Swansea shortly before the First world War.  He specialised in damaged motor vehicles and all types of mechanically driven machinery in industry and agriculture.
His son Donald Davies came into the firm in the late 1940’s and he was joined by Vincent O'Brien who entered into a partnership in 1950.  There followed a period of expansion, with the opening of the Haverfordwest and Cardiff offices in the mid 1950’s and following a period of consolidation, Newport branch was opened in 1965, shortly after the death of Donald Davies.  In 1973 Mr Michael O'Brien joined the firm and there followed expansion in Bristol in 1982 and Plymouth in 1990.  In 1998 it was decided to computerise the whole group and when this was completed the whole W. D. Davies group was joined via Internet technology.
It is fair to say that traditionally the firm has always been associated with accident damage inspections for the insurance industry, but in recent times we have expanded into other areas and aspects of mechanical engineering and Health & Safety in the workplace which includes; Industrial Accidents, Employers and Public Liability Accidents, Road Traffic Accident Investigation. This takes in vehicle collision damage, injury to pedestrians, driver and occupants as well as other vehicles, which may be involved ranging from a bicycle through to heavy goods vehicles, buses and coaches.
Historically the firm has also had strong associations with agricultural engineering which, together with the construction industry seems to attract more than their fair share of accidents each year many of which are fatal.
We currently have 24 employees within the company, 14 of which are engineers both full and part time spread throughout Wales and the West Country  All the engineers are time served in the industry and have a very broad range of experience and knowledge.
As we entered the new century it was accepted that technology had changed the nature of ordinary accident damage assessment and authorisation.  The firm has kept up with the change and is at the forefront of this technology with the forming of our in house Imaging department, which covers this technology.
The firms philosophy however, set by W. D. Davies remains the same, that is one integrity, professionalism and technical expertise.
